Froup Patrol

I am currently running an autofaq program for the newsgroup comp.lang.perl.misc. This means that every first-time poster to the group will be sent a list of perl resources that might help them solve their own problem. This list is also posted twice a week.

This was done to lower the number of questions in comp.lang.perl.misc which could easily be answered with a little research by the poster. This method has worked well on comp.infosystems.www.authoring.cgi - check out Tom Boutell's page about it.

A CGI script will let you query or modify the database. You can find out how many times a given user has posted since the database begin (mid-June, 1996), or you can add an e-mail address to the database (so you don't get sent a copy of the FAQ the first time you post).

To date, 6676 copies of the FAQ have been sent.
