What's a core developer ?

Core developers are the people having direct access to the CVS repository holding the sources to LessTif.

Core developers are by no means the only people that develop LessTif. We want your contributions ! Please read the cathedral and the bazaar paper by Eric S. Raymond to get an idea about collaborative development.

The core developers are probably the most active contributors (at least some of them, some of the others are too busy with professional activities to contribute to LessTif actively all the time). This should not stop you from sending us fixes.

Everybody other than the core developers can get a daily snapshot of the sources, which means you have updates about as fast as the core developers. Recently, anonymous CVS access was added to the services. This is described in the same page

Why do we have them ?

At first only Chris had access to the sources. A small group of people were working on the sources, relying on Chris to synchronize all of their work.

It shouldn't surprise you that this didn't last very long. Chris had no time to do anything but synchronise other people's work.

So now about six people are capable of directly adding stuff to the sources. This just means if you send in fixes, you have a good chance that one of the core developers will pick it up in the next couple of days. If not, then this probably means your fix or addition broke something else.

Who are they ?

Please send comments, questions, ... to the mailing list.
